If you take our free morning tour through Retiro and Recoleta, you will see San Martin Palace next to Plaza San Martín. We will tell you about the details of this mansion and that you can join a tour inside the palace.
This palace was built between 1905 and 1909 by the Anchorena family with a french style from the Beaux Arts. It was inspired in the Hotel a París pour un riche Banquier. It hosted important social meetings, for example, the big dance for the centenary of the independence in 1916.
In 1936 the palace was acquired by the state to host the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is why it changed the name to San Martin Palace. Nowadays is a national historic monument and you will find works from the most important artists in Argentina and America from the twentieth century as Antonio Berni, Pablo Curatella Manes, Roberto Matta, among others. Also there is a collection of Pre-Columbian art from the chancellery with pieces of ceramic, stone and metal from the north part of the country.
Every Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3pm you can join free tours in English and Spanish inside the palace.
